This Young Person’s survey is split across two subjects:

  • Health
  • Education

These documents have been reviewed by the young people who attended our focus group. They have consented to its publication and are in agreement that the information contained reflects their views.

Health

Across Wigan, young people and their families frequently tell us that support is difficult to access — often delayed until a formal diagnosis is in place.

We wanted to understand directly from neurodivergent young people what good support looks like, and whether
diagnosis should be a barrier to accessing it.

100 young people responded to our survey, followed by a focus group selected to reflect that wider cohort.

Education

Children and young people with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) make up almost one-fifth of pupils nationally, yet their voices are too often absent from decisions that shape their education and support. We engaged with 100 young people across Wigan

Borough to understand their experiences of education and what matters most to them. This report is structured using Wigan Council’s SEND Priority Plan and highlights key insights shared by young people.
