Calvert Trust in Keswick

Calvert Trust

Hello everyone, it is Ella here back with another blog, which is about the holiday that I have just arrived home from, which is Calvert Trust. I hope you enjoy reading it.

Calvert Trust is a residential centre in the Lake District that adapts activities for people who have disabilities. It is amazing because they can adapt everything from horse riding, to bush craft or zip wire. I love it because it helps me to boost my confidence every time I go and come back. This is why I thought I would write this blog about my experience about the past week with Duke of Edinburgh.

On Monday 24th July 2017, we set off on our way to Calvert Trust at 11:00 am then we arrived at around 13:30 pm. When we arrived we had to wait until 16:00 pm for our rooms were ready.

We then started the tour, where we found out where everything was and where to go in an emergency. After we completed the tour we got our kit. The kit consists of water proof pants, water proof jacket and wellies.

Then we were told that our rooms were ready. This meant we could go and unpack and have a look at them. The rooms are always amazing at Calvert Trust because they are nice and big and you are able to unpack easily.

After we had unpacked, it was time for the evening meal. On Monday, it was cream of tomato soup, chicken fillet with vegetables and roasted potatoes and a toffee cake. I think I had the soup and the chicken.

We then went swimming, which the pool is amazing because it has a jacuzzi and water features in the pool as well as a sauna. Alternatively, if you do not want to go swimming, you can go in the sensory room, where it is also amazing because it has several light tubes and you can change the music.

After swimming we went to the games room conservatory for a while, there is a tuck shop that is open for 30 minutes each night, where you can go to get souvenirs and snacks if you wish.
On Tuesday 25th July 2017, we had to get up at around 07:00 am so that we were able to be ready for breakfast at 08:30 am. After breakfast, we went back to our room to get ready for the first activity, which for me was canoeing.
After our first activity, we went back to the centre for lunch, which was barm cakes and crisps. Then we went to our next activity, which for me was horse riding. I went on a trap with a horse called ” Mischief ”

After horse riding, we played one round of archery and then went back to the centre to go in the pool.

After swimming, we went to have the evening meal, which I cannot remember what we had. We then went back to the room for a while to get ready to go to the games room. Then we went to the games room for a while.
On Wednesday 26th July 2017, we went for breakfast then went back to the room to get ready for orienteering, which was my first activity. The walk was amazing. We went to find the Gruffalo and walked down the hill to the little café at the bottom.

After the first activity, we went back to the centre for lunch then went to our afternoon activity, which for me was bush craft. Bush craft is when you go into the woods and lit a fire to toast marshmallows and make hot chocolate. Then we went back to the centre to do swimming.
After swimming, we went to the evening meal to have the cream of broccoli soup, then the Cumberland sausage with roast potatoes and vegetables, then sticky toffee pudding. Then we went to our rooms to get ready and I decided to pack some of my stuff ready for the next night, so that I didn’t have as much to pack the next night and Friday morning. Then we went to the games room conservatory.

On Thursday 27th July 2017, we went to breakfast and got ready to go for a walk Keswick down a path and into the park. Then we went back to the centre for lunch and to get ready for the afternoon activity, which for me was bush craft. We did bush craft on top of the mountain Dodd.
We then went back to the centre to get ready for swimming. After swimming, we went to the evening meal, which was pea and ham soup, pepperoni pizza with potato wedges and peas, then chocolate mousse.
We then went back to the room to get ready for going to the games room. I decided to pack everything a part from my swimming costume, my towel, my washbag, my pyjamas and my clothes for the next day. We then went to the games room.

On Friday 28th July 2017, we went to breakfast, and then went back to the room to get packed up and strip beds. We then had a presentation about our time at the Calvert Trust and started to head home.

Thanks for reading my blog; I hope you have enjoyed it.
