Children In Need Project

Empowering Disability for newly diagnosed Children and Babies

Launch of a new project

Embrace are delighted to announce the launch of a new project which will work with families of newly diagnosed children.  The project has been awarded three years of funding by BBC Children in Need, and will aim to work with as many families as possible at critical times in their lives.  Clare Roberts, our new project worker, will work with families to support them emotionally and practically through traumatic times in their life and ensure that they have opportunity and choice for as ordinary a life as possible.

The intended outcomes of the project are:

  1. To ensure that newly diagnosed babies and children receive all the essential support they need to be able to lead good, happy lives as equal citizens, where their individual gifts and skills are celebrated and shared.
  2. The children and young people involved in this project, and their families, will always have a voice when support is planned for them.
  3. It will ensure that their family members are fully supported by an organisation which is run by disabled people and family members, and can ensure that families are equipped to deal with all the new practical tasks that they now have to undertake, and that they have emotional support from, to ensure they have the best support to ensure that their children can still have a good life and go on to achieve and be part of their local community.

Clare Roberts can be contacted by calling Embrace on 01942 513053.  Referrals can be through a variety of ways either by the family making contact themselves, via a relative or close friend or via a professional known to the family.
