Helping Florrie connect with others
Added Date: 12th July 2018

I have decided to create a blog about my project; circles of support, to share stories about what I get up to. I want to give people a true insight into my world of circles. We have many different types of circles of support happening all over the borough, from crisis circles to community circles, supporting people in many different ways. Today’s blog will look at Florrie’s circle which has now been established for almost a year.

Florrie had asked for a circle of support as she had been feeling isolated, and although she is an independent lady, Florrie felt that a circle of support may give her some encouragement and ideas to reach her goals. When I first met Florrie, I knew straight away that I would love working with her. She instantly welcomed me into her home, and is a pleasant, honest lady. I explained to Florrie how a circle of support would benefit her, and looked at what we could achieve if we all worked together, rather than her feeling isolated, dealing with things al...

Wigan and Leigh young Carers
Added Date: 4th May 2018

I had the pleasure of facilitating a circle for a group of young people who have caring responsibilities for either their parents or siblings.

Wigan and Leigh young Carers provide these young people with a break from their caring responsibilities and organise activities that will help them to get to know and make friends with people of their own age and create natural support mechanisms to help them cope with their responsibilities.
Last night’s circle started with the obligatory pizza –...

10 Peaks Training

The challenge nears!
Added Date: 24th April 2018

As the 10 peaks challenge nears, our brave team ups their training in order to improve their endurance before the big day! With just 25 days to go until the event, the team decided to take on a 10 mile training session in Anglezarke, near Rivington. I was lucky enough to be invited along, to get a feel for what the challenge might entail – to say it was hard work would be an understatement! The route covered 10 miles of beautiful countryside, copious amounts of mud and so much uphill that the ...

Calvert Trust in Keswick
Added Date: 19th August 2017

Hello everyone, it is Ella here back with another blog, which is about the holiday that I have just arrived home from, which is Calvert Trust. I hope you enjoy reading it.

Calvert Trust is a residential centre in the Lake District that adapts activities for people who have disabilities. It is amazing because they can adapt everything from horse riding, to bush craft or zip wire. I love it because it helps me to boost my confidence every time I go and come back. This is why I thought I would w...

When you go on holiday...
Added Date: 11th July 2017

Hello everyone, it is Ella back with another blog, which this time is about when you go on holiday to a hotel that had said it was accessible on the booking form, but when you get there, you find that it isn’t accessible enough to make it adapted to make you feel independent. I hope you enjoy!

I have just got back off holiday from Rhodes, which was amazing. I loved the holiday, apart from the fact that the pools were layered, which meant they had steps and ramps. The steps and ramps were re...
